SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT, HON’BLE MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURSIM, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA INAUGURATES NEW BUILDING OF LALIT KALA AKADEMI REGIONAL CENTRE KOLKATA
INDRAJIT AICH (KOLKATA):- Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Minister of Culture and Tourism, Government of India today inaugurated the new building of Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre, Kolkata. The new building is located on AJC Bose Road, Entally. The Minister also inaugurated the 3rd Print Biennale India 2026. Other noted dignitaries present on the occasion was Dr. Nand Lal Thakur, Vice Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi and Shri C S Krishna Setty, Commissioner 3rd Print Biennale India
Lalit Kala Akademi, the National Academy of Art, New Delhi, is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The Akademi was inaugurated on 5th August 1954 under the guidance of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, with the objective of promoting, nurturing and supporting visual arts and artistic excellence across the country.
Continuing its commitment towards the growth and global outreach of Indian printmaking practices, Lalit Kala Akademi initiated Print Biennale India, a major international platform dedicated to the art of printmaking. The Akademi has successfully organised the first two editions of the Biennale, encouraging wide participation from artists across India and abroad.
The 1st Print Biennale India was organised by Lalit Kala Akademi in 2018 at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, marking a milestone event celebrating printmaking as a significant contemporary art medium. The 2nd Print Biennale India (International Exhibition of Graphic Prints) was held in Mumbai hosted at the Jehangir Art gallery and featured works from 14 countries including India.
In continuation of this legacy, Lalit Kala Akademi is proud to announce the 3rd Print Biennale India 2026, being hosted at the newly built Lalit Kala Akademi building in Kolkata. This edition has witnessed an overwhelming global response with 1449 entries received worldwide. After a rigorous multi-stage selection process, the First Tier Jury has selected 204 artists from 34 countries, showcasing a vibrant spectrum of contemporary print practices across the world. In the Second Tier Jury selection, the Biennale has conferred 5 Grand Prix Awards and 4 Honourable Mentions, recognising exceptional excellence in printmaking.
The Biennale will remain open to the public from 15th January to 15th February 2026 at Lalit Kala Akademi, Kolkata.
